EU Life+ project of mine reforestation in Riofrio de Alista, Spain
Control of the result of the reforestation of plantings at Grupo Cupa during May 2012
Trees were growing above the slate mines. The objective of the Life+ project is to restore this
Enormous trucks transport the mine spill to the mine dumps
The mine dumps consist of rocks without any soil in it
This is the structure of the 'soil' that we have to restore with the Groasis Waterboxx® plant cocoon
The dumped rocks are covered again with the original top layer which we can reforest with the help of the Groasis Waterboxx® plant cocoon
The giant trucks constantly transport mine spill to the dumps
The saplings have to re-establish and recover the eroded area
Every 5 minutes, a giant truck passes by, loaded with rocks
Grupo Cupa feels itself responsible for this work and wants the area to be forested again
On every 10 meter, a tree is planted
This tree is planted in 2011 and we checked it again in May 2012. It grows very well
Survery of the trees
Destruction and restoration in one picture
The trees have no problem with penetrating the soil
With the Groasis Waterboxx® plant cocoon, tree reforestation can be done on any place. No matter how harsh the environment is, it will lead to a +90% survival rate

Mr. Gelo is responsible for the mine restoration. Mr. Francisco Martin, project leader of the Life+ Desiertos Verdes
Mr. Christof van Hulle from Sylma (Belgium) is the supplier of the saplings of the Life+ The Green Deserts project
Mr. Francisco Martin is interviewed for The Green Deserts documentary
Fifty meter high mine dumping place reforested with trees creating new beauty
Clearly visible capillary hang water in the deep mine
At the moment the mine dumps are ugly pustules in the landscape that's why Grupo Cupa is carefully reforestating them

The Groasis Waterboxx® plant cocoon doing its job helping us to replant places that formerly couldn't be replanted successfully without irrigation
Without the Waterboxx® plant cocoon it is impossible to plant on rocks, eroded or arid areas without using energy for pumps and without spilling scarse water to irrigation
